Tax Prep: Millions of Americans are finalizing their tax returns as the deadline of April 15 approaches( residents of Maine and Massachusetts have until April 17 due to state holidays.) However, millions of Americans have yet to file (*cough* guilty *cough, cough*).

If you’re one of the many who’ve also waited until the last second to file taxes, you’re not alone. Here’s the rundown on what to expect this year.
Refunds are generally issued within three weeks for those who file electronically and use direct deposit. Those filing on paper or receiving checks may wait longer.
Payments are due by the tax return deadline, and partial payments with a subsequent payment plan can mitigate late fees and interest.
Free filing options are available through the Free File program for individuals with incomes up to $79,000, the IRS's new Direct File tool in 12 states, or by manually completing the tax forms.
Penalties apply for late filings unless an extension is requested using tax software or through a mailed request to the IRS.
Increased staffing has improved the IRS's in-person and phone assistance and some post offices extend hours on the tax deadline day to accommodate last-minute filings, although the increase in electronic filings reduces the likelihood of long lines.
Education: Would you drop out of Harvard for $100k? Well, some students did, and here’s why.
Five Harvard students were awarded $100,000 each by the Thiel Fellowship to drop out of school and focus on their startups — most of which focus on AI technology.
The Thiel Fellowship, established in 2011 by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, offers this grant to young entrepreneurs under 22, encouraging them to pursue innovative projects outside of traditional education. Thiel criticizes modern universities, likening them to the "medieval Catholic Church" and suggesting that a reformation is needed.
This is a unique opportunity as the “grant which can be used at the recipients’ discretion, along with industry recognition and access to professional networks.“
While many wouldn’t dream of ever dropping out of Harvard, but these students, being able to focus on their startups as well as gaining new connections and insights is the real dream.
