New Year’s Resolutions and Dry January Challenge
“You can get excited about the future. The past won’t mind.” —Hillary DePiano, playwright and author
New Year’s Resolutions: Every new year, most of us have a list of resolutions that we’re going to do. Maybe it’s the year you get that raise, or lose those last few pounds, or quit that bad habit. But for one reason or another, we just can't stick to it.
Let’s make 2024 different! Here are some of the most common resolutions that people tend to make in the new year and some helpful tips for how to make them a reality:
Eat Healthier:
Focus on one aspect, like eating breakfast or cutting out soda.
Gradually incorporate changes, building confidence with each success.
Seek guidance from a dietitian for personalized advice and accountability.
Work Out More:
Start with realistic goals, avoiding overexertion.
Explore different activities and consider a personal trainer.
Set smaller goals within a larger fitness plan for ongoing motivation.
Drink Less:
Assess your relationship with alcohol.
Identify triggers and find alternative activities.
Consider seeking support from friends, family, or a therapist.
Embrace non-alcoholic drink options.
Manage Stress:
Utilize healthy coping mechanisms like deep breathing and mindfulness.
Maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise routine.
Experiment with various self-care practices to find what works best.
Quit Smoking (or Vaping):
Create a plan to quit and seek professional support.
Accept that relapses may occur and persevere through setbacks.
Cook More:
Stock up on healthy freezer meals for convenience.
Practice meal prepping to ensure healthier eating habits.
Create a Better Work-Life Balance:
Establish physical boundaries between work and personal spaces.
Set realistic work hours and disconnect during off-hours.
Prioritize mental health and consider leaving a toxic work environment if necessary.
Prioritize Mental Health:
Consider talk therapy, medication, or complementary therapies.
Focus on building mental strength through healthy coping strategies.
Explore various resources to improve overall mental well-being.
Remember, the key is gradual change, realistic goals, and seeking support when needed. Here's to a successful and fulfilling New Year!
Women’s Health: The holidays bring a whirlwind of festivities, and with them, an abundance of cocktails. Enter 'Dry January,' a month-long sobriety challenge that serves as the ultimate 'new year, new me' reset.
As sober curiosity grows and tantalizing mocktails become more prevalent, Dry January transforms from a daunting challenge into a welcome, booze-free vacation.
While statistics reveal a significant portion of adults engaging in alcohol consumption, the rise of sober curiosity makes Dry January less of a challenge and more of a desirable break.
The perks of Dry January extend beyond just a break from drinking. Physical health benefits include improved liver function, better hydration, weight loss, and a more robust immune system. Mental health sees enhancements with reduced anxiety and boosted self-esteem, as alcohol-free routines become the norm.
However, it's crucial to approach Dry January with caution, especially for those with chronic, heavy alcohol use. Dr. Koob warns against abrupt cessation, as it may lead to dangerous withdrawal symptoms.
Seeking support from online communities or local groups, along with informing friends and family, proves beneficial. The key is to view Dry January not only as a break from alcohol but also as an opportunity for self-discovery and the cultivation of healthier habits.
Cheers to a booze-free adventure and the chance to toast to a refreshed, healthier you! 🥂

Fast like a Girl
Fasting has a lot of health benefits that many are starting to rediscover to amplify their health.
But for women, did you know that most of the one-size-fits-all advice around fasting isn’t well suited for use? For instance, we have to deal with a menstrual cycle, and depending on where we are in the cycle changes the way we should fast if we don’t want to negatively impact things.
Say whaaat?! Yep, it’s true. We have different biology and hormones that affect how to fast that men don’t need to combat.
Dr. Mindy Pelz does a deep dive into all the ins and outs of fasting like a girl and teaches you what you need to know to fast for health rather than just for the sake of fasting.
