It’s gonna get hot, hot, hot

"Some of the best memories are made in flip flops." — Kellie Elmore

Midsummer means pool parties and trips to faraway places. In this edition, we’re keeping you up to date with staying fit, where everyone wants to travel this month, and more!

Fitness: Turns out, all the fitness advice you’ve been reading about just might probably not actually work for women… 😲 The University of New South Wales reviews over 1,500 fitness studies which had over 100 million participants.

These studies were done to help create guidelines for health, fitness, and weight loss. But 70% of those participants were males.

As women, we have different physiology. Mandy Hagstrom, a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at the University of New South Wales gets into the nitty gritty.

"[F]emales have multiple variations in their physiology throughout their lifespan such as menarche (when you first get your period), pregnancy, and menopause, that may also impact exercise responses differently from the impact that their male counterparts are experiencing at similar life stages."

That doesn’t mean we should quit working out, but more research on what works for us ladies is definitely something we need.

Summer Travel: Got the summer travel itch but feel like you can’t afford it right now? Been there, done that. Thankfully, there are a lot of places all around the world that can probably fit your budget.

It just depends on how far you want to go. Surprisingly, according to Forbes, going farther could be cheaper.

Here are some of the cheapest places to travel this summer ✈️:

  • Cheapest destination in US: Orlando, FL

  • Cheapest destination in North America: San Salvador, El Salvador

  • Cheapest destination in Europe: The Dolomites, Italy (though… This place is still pricey. It’s just cheap for a European vacay)

Careers: Landing a new job is exciting, but things can quickly become daunting when you’re assigned to lead a project that feels out of your depth. What’s a girl to do?

Thankfully, there are a handful of helpful strategies that can help you tackle the tasks with confidence.

Here’s the TD; LR on the tips:

  • Embrace a growth mindset

  • Break the project into smaller tasks

  • Seek guidance and support

  • Research and learn

  • Talk to your manager and/or team

  • Leverage existing skills and strengths

  • Take calculated risks

  • Reflect and learn

But a lot of what will help you is your mindset. See this challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow in your role and add to your skill set.

You may never have heard of Intrinsic, but they’ve been working hard to make the world healthier by putting women first. They have an interesting bend where they acquire and build brands that will make a difference in the lives of women around the world.

They recently just gained $15 million in funding so they can do more of what they’re so good at – build women's health-focused brands.

Right now they’re looking for brands that are “addressing an unmet need and doing so in interesting, novel ways.”

They definitely know what they’re looking for but we’re excited to see who else they add to their lineup. Especially since we ladies have something we can benefit from.

Unlikely friendships can change the world. This biographical fiction novel paints the story of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune.

In real life, their friendship became one that ultimately helped change the course of history for the better.

Strong women don’t always act or sound like what we think they should. Their fortitude stands the test of time and this is a great example of how women can stand up for what’s right.
